Cupping therapy places suction cups on the back to lift the skin and muscles and work on muscle tension. At Alphabiotismo Playa we use it as a complement to massage and alignment, and it costs MX$500 per session.
What cupping is
Cups are placed on the skin to create suction. That suction lifts the skin and the surface muscles. It is a traditional technique that many wellness and sports practices use today.
Rosa and Lázaro, massage therapists on our team, do it. A session takes about 30 minutes and costs MX$500.
What it is used for
In our practice we use it to complement work on tight muscles in the back, neck and shoulders, especially for active people or people who do physical work.
Why does it leave marks?
The suction can leave round, reddish or purple marks on the skin. They are normal and usually fade in a few days. If you have an event coming up or are heading to the beach, let us know so we can plan your session.
Cupping is not recommended on injured skin, sunburn or varicose veins, or if you take blood thinners. If in doubt, talk to your doctor.
